Day 2: Australia 1st innings 517/7 (120 overs)


The second day of the first test match started ten minutes later than the scheduled time. Sky was cloudy and there were chances of a possible rain. Michael Clarke, who was retired hurt yesterday due to a back injury walked stride with Steven Smith to the middle. India’s top order bowlers welcomed the Aussies with full and wide deliveries. Even the injured Clarke felt very comfortable against the ineffective Indian bowling. The expensive Indian bowlers gave away 51 runs in the 12.2 over which bowled before lunch.

Steven Smith (162 not out) and Michael Clarke continued disappointing Indian bowlers and reached their 5th and 28th Test centuries respectively. Rain stopped the match couple of times but the Aussies duo maintained their rhythm. The frustration of Indians even reflected in their fielding too.

The only relief for India in day 2 was the wicket of Michael Clarke(128 runs). Debutant Karn Sharma took his second wicket in the match. Soon after Clarke’s dismissal the umpires decided to call stumps due to rain and bad light.
