India Vs Australia: 1st Test, Day 3 Highlights

As awaited Australia declared their first innings score at 517/7. S Dhawan and Murali Vijay started off well for India. Dhawan scored a quick 25 runs of 24 balls. Cheteshwar Pujara and M Vijay held the innings together and both scored valuable half centuries to give Indian innings a good platform. The real hero of the Indian innings was stand-in captain Virat Kohli, who joined after the wicket of M Vijay (53 runs) played the innings of a true leader.

The breath taking moment came in the 31th over of Indian innings when a short pitched delivery from Michel Johnson hit Kohli’s helmet and all the Australian players rushing to Kohli as he removed his helmet. Though Kohli was taken in to surprise by the bouncer put up a brave show and smashed his seventh century on the same ground where he had scored his maiden Test century. Ajinkya Rahane’s brilliant extended a good support to his captain with his 62 runs and together they put up a century partnership (101 runs). After Rahane fell in to a good length delivery of Lyon, Rohit Sharma joined Virat Kohli and carried on the ticking the score board. Mohammed Shami’s once again proved that he is a handy low order batsman and added valuable 34 runs.

All the Indian batsmen responded positively against the Australia’s huge first innings total. Virat Kohli, the captain lead from the front with 115 runs. M Vijay (53 runs), Cheteshwar Pujara (73 runs) and Ajinkya Rahane (62 runs) all made half centuries and contributed to India’s first innings total. At the end of 3rd day play India is at 369/5 with Rohit was batting on 33 along with Wriddhiman Saha trailing the first innings score by 148 runs.

Nathan Lyon’s was the best among the Aussies bowlers. Michel Johnson picked up two important wickets of M Vijay and Virat Kohli, but, Nathan Lyon, the right arm off spinner was the big treat to Indian batsman some accurate bowling.
