India Vs Australia: 1st Test, Day 4 Highlights

To the overnight score of 369/5, India could only add 75 runs at the cost of remaining five wickets.  India’s first innings ended at 444 runs only 73 runs behind Australia’s first innings. With a crucial first innings lead in hand Australia started their second innings to raise the lead around four hundred and put India under pressure. David Warner, again proved his worth as an opener and smashed back-to-back centuries. His 102 runs achievement in the second innings made him the fifth batsman to hit two back-to-back tons in the same calendar year. The other four cricketers to have achieved this phenomenon record are Clyde Walcott in 1955, Sunil Gavaskar in 1978, Aravinda de Silva in 1997 and Ricky Ponting in 2006.

Steven Smith, the centurion of first innings continued his good touch and made a well played 52* runs. Mitchell Marsh scored a quick 40 runs in 26 balls and Australia declared their second innings at 290/5. There were a lots of exchange of words between the players as the game progressed. Warner and Varun Aaron engaged in a war of words when the former was recalled by the umpire after dismissed in a no-ball delivery. In another occasion Steve Smith and Virat Kohli exchanged words which heated up the situation.

Young Karn Sharma took two wicket while Mohammed Shami, Varun Aaron and Rohit Sharma shared one each.

India was asked to follow a 363 runs to win the Test match. With one day left this Test match is set up beautifully. Equally good chance for both team to win the match and lead the series. Can the young Indian team held the nerve on the fifth day?
