India Vs Australia: 1st Test, Day 5 Highlights


Chasing 363 runs on the fifth day of Test match after loosing two wickets, Indian opener Murali Vijay and Stand-in captain Virat Kohli started off the day beyond the expectations. The duo put up a 185 runs partnership in the third wicket and Indian was heading to a historic win. M Vijay (99) who was batting with awesome composure fall to Nathan Lyon’s delivery on 99 while looking to flick for a single and was trapped in front of the wicket. Ajinkya Rahane, who played well in the first innings, was unlucky to got out for a duck in the same over. Suddenly, India reduced to 242/4.


On the other end Virat Kohli was very still fighting for the victory and giving the Aussies bowlers a hard time. Rohit Sharma could not defend the top class spin bowling from Lyon and India were pushed into back foot. Wriddhiman Saha, the last recognized batsman, played couple of aggressive shots against Nathan Lyon, but he failed to read a good ball from Lyon and bowled trying to hit.


Virat Kohli, left with no support from his batsman took the responsibility and forced to play some risky shots. The turning point of the match came when Kohli (141 runs) pulled off Lyon and finds Mitchell Marsh at deep mid-wicket. The classic innings from Kohli came to an end and India lost their last hope in the Match. Australia claimed the rest three Indian wickets with ease. India were bowled out for 315 and lost the game by 48 runs. Australians held their nerve in the nail biting Test match and gone 1-0 up in the four match series.

Nathan Lyon took seven wickets in the second innings and adjudged the man of the match with total of 12 wickets from the Test match.
