MS Dhoni


Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born in Ranchi (Jharkhand) in 1981. He was an alumini of DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Ranchi, Jharkhand. Before he tried his luck in cricket he participated in other sports such as Badminton and Football. He was also a fine goalkeeper in his school days. His goalkeeping skills leads him to wicketkeeping in cricket . Further he started playing club cricket. During 1997-98 he was selected for Vinoo Mankad Trophy Under-16 Championship.Subsequently in the year 1998-99 he was picked up for the Bihar team. In 2004 he made his ODI debut for India against Bangladesh.He is well known for his attacking batting style and great finishing. His Test debut was against Sri Lanka in 2005. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the current captain of Indian cricket team in all three format.

He took over Test captaincy from Rahul Dravid in the year 2008. He, with 27 Test victories became the most successful Indian Test captain, adumbrating Ganguly’s 21 victories. Dhoni’s 224 against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in 1999 is the highest score by an Indian captain in Tests. Under his captaincy Team India won many major tournaments like ICC World Twenty20 (2007), Asia Cup (2010), ICC Cricket World Cup (2011), ICC Cricket World Cup (2013). India’s  first position in the test ranking in 2009 was another feather to his cap.

He is also recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007 and the Padma Shri in 2009 by Govt of India.
